Summer plans: The best amusement park you’ve never heard of and more

More Shorelines readers share the summer activities they’re most looking forward to this week:

Fox Point Universal Banker Linda Settler plans to spend a day at the park — a very cool park. “Once each summer,” she writes, “I pack a picnic lunch, and my family and I head out together to Marshall, Wis., for the day. Marshall is home to a quaint, family-friendly amusement park called Little Amerricka. We discovered it when planning my daughter Carolyn’s 10th birthday party back in 2002. What we love most about the park is that it seems to be Wisconsin’s best-kept secret (until you print this article in Shorelines!). Tucked away in this small town and surrounded by farmland, Little Amerricka features 26 rides and attractions. Our favorite, by far, are the go-karts. For a couple of years, my older daughter, Meredith, lived in Arizona and Alabama, and then decided to move back home last May. We’re so glad she’s back in town to accompany the rest of us on this annual family adventure, which includes me, husband Craig, my mother, Phoebe Wechsler, and daughters Meredith (24) and Carolyn (20).”

“I am most looking forward to softball season!” writes New Berlin Teller Supervisor Kristel Salinas. “I typically am at the diamonds three nights a week — Mondays for women’s softball, and Tuesdays and Thursdays for men’s. Along with that, I will be helping my dad run the Old Timer’s Softball Tournament. Summertime is definitely time for fun in the sun!”

Union Grove Teller Supervisor Sara Coppersmith is ready to hit the road: “This summer is going to be great. My husband recently purchased a motorcycle, and I absolutely cannot wait to go riding with him all over town. I love the freedom I feel when I am on one, with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. And the parking isn’t bad when you go to festivals!”

“I am most looking forward to working outside in my garden,” writes Northland Universal Banker Patricia Kox. “I am hoping to change around the old portion of the flowerbeds this spring. I will be able to add some new varieties, and I can divide up older plants and donate them to the Master Gardener plant sale.”

And VP Tricia Cravillion keeps it nice and simple: “Cannot wait for that first campfire — comfy lawn chair, side pork, and s’mores!”
