Shorelines readers have been sharing their favorite summer memories, traditions and activities:
“Our favorite summer activity is our annual family camping trip,” writes West Allis Branch Manager Sara Swosinski. “Wisconsin has arguably one of the most beautiful state park systems in the country. Each year, we pick a new park to visit for four or five days. It’s been a great way to stay connected with each other and to see different parts of the state. The farther away we are from civilization, the better. It’s amazing how a little time outside can recharge your batteries! So far, our favorite parks have been Big Bay, Newport and a remote site (accessible by canoe only) in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.”
“I love outdoor sports during the summer,” says Cudahy Teller Jenny Guzman. “I usually do soccer, softball, kickball and volleyball.”
Senior Commercial Loan Specialist Priscilla Hartling writes: “It sounds simple, but we like to go for rides down at the lakefront, walk by North Point Lighthouse or the marina and then go get some ice cream! (Turtle sundaes always seem to be the treat of choice.)”
“Our family likes to fill up our canoes to the top with items you just have to have for camping,” says Sturgeon Bay East Personal Banker Tammy Hendrickson. “You know, like all the convenience of home. Which leaves about an inch of canoe before the water comes over the edge. Then we canoe over to an island in Michigan and set up camp. We have a great time swimming, fishing and telling stories around the campfire — and, of course, eating a lot of toasted marshmallows!”
And McHenry Branch Manager John Ryczek writes: “At least once every year, we plan a family outing to the McHenry drive-in movie theater. It’s been a tradition since I can remember, and last year I was able to carry the tradition on with my son. It’s nostalgic, exciting and an all-around great time. This year, the entire family has set the date for the first show of the year: May 3. The first feature will be Iron Man 3, with the second to be announced. If you love the movies, you need to try a drive-in at least once — I highly recommend it.”
