“I’ve been in banking for a generation, and some practices from my early years have all but disappeared,” says Process Risk Analyst Ron Olson. “I remember long lines at teller stations the day Social Security checks arrived in mailboxes. Now the vast majority of those funds are deposited electronically.” Ron has held numerous positions throughout his long career here, from teller to branch manager, and learned from a lot of great people. See what he’s got to say about three decades in the industry.

North Shore Shape Up
How to wash your hands. Hand washing may seem like a basic skill, but Health.com reports that a 2013 study found that most people didn’t wash their hands properly after using the bathroom. Here’s what’s recommended:
- Don’t skip it. Always wash your hands after using the restroom, before and after fixing or eating a meal, and after jobs like taking out the garbage.
- Use soap. Liquid is better than bar soap, because germs can linger on bars.
- Scrub for at least 20 to 30 seconds. Get all over your hands and fingers, and under your nails, too.
- Use paper towels when you can. If you have to use an air dryer, make sure you get your hands completely dry. If they’re wet, bacteria will stick to them much more easily.
- Don’t touch things. Use a paper towel to protect your hand when you shut off the faucet and when you open the restroom door to leave.
