Selling to Millennials: MLO Stephanie Glowinski-Moeller (above) spoke at a Feb 20 seminar at Corporate on “Selling to Millennials,” put on by Jack Long of MGIC. She shared tips with area real estate agents about the younger generation’s needs and wishes when it comes to home ownership. “The big theme was steering our business toward our future,” Stephanie says, noting that lenders and Realtors need to shape their work around technology like smartphones and social media to reach younger home buyers. “Everyone’s going that route.”

Happy anniversary! District Manager Kerri Collins (above, left, with Branch Manager Dede Mickelson) officially celebrated her 25th anniversary with North Shore Bank on Feb 26 at the Sister Bay branch, where employees put together a photo display for her, along with balloons and treats, reports Teller Supervisor Becky Redling.

North Shore Shape Up

Unorthodox over-the-counter solutions: Bad insect bite? Just apply some aspirin. Health.com has a neat list of safe alternate uses for over-the-counter medications. Here are a few you might not have heard of:

• Preparation H for puffy eyes. You may know this one: If you’re short on sleep, applying a little bit of the cream under your eyes will clear up bags and give you a fresher look.

• Aspirin for insect bites. Aspirin’s anti-inflammatory ingredient will relieve the pain of stings and itches if you crush two pills, make them into a paste with a little water, and apply.

• Benadryl for insomnia. While this is definitely not a long-term solution — your body will quickly build up a resistance — if you’re struggling to fall asleep because of a temporary issue (like aches or pains from strenuous physical activity), the allergy medication can help.

• Hydrocortisone ointment for seriously chapped lips. If this dry winter has wreaked havoc on your lips, applying this topical steroid two or three times a day reduces inflammation, which speeds the healing process, and moisturizes, too. Make sure you’re using ointment (not hydrocortisone cream, which could irritate your mouth) and apply it only to the dry outer area of the lips, not your inner lips. Don’t use it for more than two weeks, though. If your lips are still hurting at that point, check in with your doctor.

Music for cats: Here’s a treat for your favorite felines — University of Wisconsin researchers have created tunes “designed to appeal to cats by mixing beats that fall into the same frequency range that cats use to communicate with one another. The songs also have a tempo similar to the beat that cats purr to.” Play the samples for your cat and watch those pointy ears perk up!
