Spotlight: David Holada, North Shore Star

Shorewood ABMO David Holada is golden — that is to say, he’s earned “gold ribbon” status in each of the four years since we started surveying customers about their experiences with employees on our branches’ front lines. “It’s always nice to hear when somebody says, ‘Oh, I bank at a couple different places, and there isn’t any staff I like working with more than yours.’ That’s huge,” David says. Read more about how David consistently delivers gold-star service here.

Around the Bank

Video teller contest: Above, Bayshore Teller Jonathan Chestnut (right) presents customer Danzel with a $400 North Shore Bank gift card, the grand prize in our recent contest to encourage customers to try our new video teller machines. The contest ran Feb 14 to 28. Four other customers (another at Bayshore, one at Green Bay East, one at Howard, and one at Kenosha) also won $25 gift cards.

Making the News

Human Resources VP Molly Schissler was quoted in a recent American Banker article about better using technology to attract job applicants. She discussed how the bank produced a video in January to advertise our new openings for video tellers.

Service Anniversaries

You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.

“I’m excited and proud to say I’ve been with the bank for 10 years,” says Deposit Operations Rep Stephanie Hallgren. “I consider myself lucky because so many people dread going to work, and I love what I do and the people I work with. Right now I absolutely love working with internal customers. North Shore Bank encourages employees to move up in the company. Therefore, as the demands on my life have changed over the years, I’ve been able to transfer to five different locations and go from part-time teller to full-time teller, teller supervisor, assistant branch manager–operations, and deposit service rep.”

“I feel lucky that I’ve been able to have worked in positions with Bank of Kenosha and North Shore Bank that I have enjoyed for the last 10 years,” says Senior Financial Accountant/Analyst Kristin Monday. “My favorite parts of the job have been the people I have worked with and the different areas in banking I’ve gotten to experience.”

Photo of the Week

Northside Teller Supervisor Shayla Noltee took a “girls’ week” off in Nassau, Bahamas, with her grandma and aunt last week. “I wore my North Shore Bank T-shirt to the beach!” she writes. “The water was heavenly.” She adds: “When I left, I told everyone I was bringing spring with me, and I stayed true to my word.” Thanks for the warmer weather, Shayla!

North Shore Shape Up

Bedtime habits to avoid: If you routinely have trouble falling asleep, it might be because of the choices you’re making before bed. Here’s a useful list of things that can mess up your sleep, including these big ones:

  • Screens. Smartphones, tablets, computer monitors, and TVs give off a blue light that inhibits the body’s ability to produce melatonin, the hormone that makes you sleep. If you use an e-reader, turn down the brightness and keep it at least 14 inches from your face. Also: Set a reasonable time to stop checking email — whether it’s stressful or not, news from work or family can keep you lying awake thinking.
  • Medication. Antidepressants, painkillers, and other medicines can affect your ability to sleep — some cause discomfort, and others increase your sense of alertness. If you think a medication may be the problem, talk to your doctor about it.
  • Chocolate. There’s not as much caffeine in chocolate candy or ice cream as there is in a cup of coffee, but there can still be enough to keep you awake and staring at the ceiling.
  • Fatty or spicy foods. Rich, spicy, or fatty foods can promote acid reflux, which tends to kick in once you’re lying prone. Try to eat dinner at least two hours before bedtime, and if you eat something right before bed, try a simple carbohydrate like fruit, veggies, or milk.
