Carol Burmeister retires after many jobs at NSB

For an “accidental banker” who applied for a job at Badger Savings & Loan in 1972 because it was in the neighborhood, Special Applications Rep Carol Burmeister certainly seemed to end up in the right place. Now, after 26 cumulative years of banking, she plans to trade computer screens and balance sheets for tending to her home on Big Muskego Lake and spending time with her family. Read more about Carol’s long career and future plans, and wish her well in the comments here.

Dangers of diet soda: A new study has found that senior citizens’ waistlines increased in relation to how much diet soda they drank. The research does not prove that drinking diet soda is what caused the weight gain; for example, it’s possible that people who drink diet soda think that because they’re saving calories, they can eat more of other high-calorie foods. But past studies have shown that zero-calorie artificial sweeteners increase weight gain in animals, possibly by affecting how the body processes sugars. This study isn’t conclusive by any means, but if you’re looking to lose weight, kicking your Diet Coke habit may actually help.
