Jill Heule’s brother Marshall Hooyman watches youngsters get their slide on at Kids Day.

Kids Day Fox Valley: Menasha hosted the second annual family event on May 2. Once again, Kids Day promoted safety and wellness, and also featured plenty of fun activities for the more than 500 attendees, including gymnastics and martial arts demonstrations, a bouncy slide, face painting, and games. Thirty lucky young riders won free bicycles and helmets, too, and kids got to meet animals from the zoo, as well as mascots like Frostbite from the Ice Dogs hockey team, McGruff the Crime Dog (played by MLO Stewart Hoyer’s son Evan), Fang from the Timber Rattlers baseball team, and of course, North Shore Bank’s own Seymour Savings (played by customer Todd Purdy). Stewart, Tellers McKenzie Walker and Angelia Vang, PB Adam Graf, DM Kerri Collins and daughter Molly, Traveling UB Dede Krause and daughter Lily, and Assistant Branch Manager Jill Heule helped out with Kids Day.

Appleton closes location inside Festival Foods: On Apr 30, the North Shore Bank office inside Festival Foods on Northland Avenue in Appleton closed. As more customers have begun to use the stand-alone location in the grocery store’s parking lot, it just made sense to consolidate all the branch’s business there. The same staff will continue to serve our customers, and the Northland stand-alone location now offers drive-up video teller service as well, so that customers can bank with us seven days a week.

Mother’s Day donations: Sussex’s 15th annual gift bag promotion to collect gifts for moms in need was a success, reports Branch Manager Candy Walecki. “We filled one bin at the branch, and Corporate donated another bin,” she says. “Every little bit helps.” The Volunteer Organization of Women in Sussex will put together 100 gift bags for the Sussex Food Pantry.

Service Anniversaries

You can congratulate your coworkers on their anniversaries in the comments.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity to be there for the very beginnings of a new product line and department and then to watch it grow,” writes VP Investment Program Manager Erika Milosevich, who celebrates 15 years with the bank. “We started in the year 2000 with a very different configuration: There were only three investment reps — one of whom was me, wearing dual hats handling sales and management — and upward of 60 bankers selling annuities. Over time, we have grown to five full-time reps and two support staff, and we are adding an additional associate advisor in the northern region. We have expanded our product line and switched broker-dealers over the years and now offer the most comprehensive list of investment solutions for our clients. We have grown from zero assets to $250 million in assets under management. It is great to help clients reach their financial planning goals while bringing real revenue to the bank’s bottom line.”

Kudos

Here are some of the great comments we’ve heard from North Shore Bank customers. Thanks for making this the Bank of You!

“For me the emphasis is on service, which is the primary reason I bank at North Shore. The people are outstanding.”

“Over the years I’ve had contact with several different banks, and none compare to North Shore Bank’s services or staff. I’m very happy with my experience with North Shore Bank’s services and caring staff. I will definitely recommend you to my family and friends. Keep up the great work.”

“Great job by the group in Allouez.”

“They are very knowledgeable, but what I love most is how accessible and responsive everyone is.”

North Shore Shape Up

Simple ways to fight off dementia: Aging and genetics both play a large role in the chances that you’ll suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of mental degradation, but there are some relatively simple things you can do to help keep dementia at bay. Exercise helps, of course, as does avoiding saturated fats and eating plenty of colorful fruits and veggies, as well as fish like salmon, with lots of omega-3 fatty acids. Beyond those things, your brain will perform better if you maintain an active social life and keep it stimulated. Older folks shouldn’t spend lots of time isolated and alone, and it’s a good idea to give your brain a workout by trying things like learning a new language and doing crossword puzzles.
