Jan Tishberg retiring, leaving behind many grateful colleagues

Fox Point Teller Janice Tishberg will retire from North Shore Bank next Friday after 14 years. The self-described “teller-marketer” has had a greater influence on the bank and her colleagues than she likely realizes. Georgia Phillips and Missy Hayburn — along with many other Corporate employees — helped prepare the trees for the troops.

Christmas in July: On July 17, Corporate held a tree decorating event to benefit Trees From Home Inc., a Whitefish Bay nonprofit that sends holiday reminders to American troops serving overseas. The event, organized by the Corporate Community Outreach Committee, yielded $630 in donations, knitted and crocheted hats, and boxes of personal items and snacks, along with 192 decorated mini Christmas trees.

“We opened up a conference room Friday complete with food, music — even a CD or two of Christmas tunes — and hot-glue guns for anyone who wished to come down and decorate a tree or two or three,” reports Project Manager Pat Ingelse. “The turnout was great! Trees From Home provided the trees, decorations, glue sticks, and bags. We provided the talented folks who decorated the trees.”

North Shore Shape Up

Get a handle on information overload: “Today we struggle to cope with the barrage of information coming at us — far more than we can possibly comprehend,” writes Dr. Edward Creagan, in a post for the Mayo Clinic. “So how can you cope?” The doctor makes these suggestions:

• Recognize you have limited bandwidth. You have only so much capacity on your mental and emotional hard drive. An overloaded hard drive cannot function properly.
• Practice selective listening. You must learn to focus on what’s important amid the flood of information and chatter. This “noise” distorts the messages that matter and can keep you from attending to what you need to do.
• At the start of each day, write down three measurable and achievable tasks. This might be something as simple as washing your car or making a doctor’s appointment. Then build your day around achieving these tasks.
