Your BCP Committee: Winter is coming. Get ready!

While we can handle the cold and snow, all it takes is one storm to knock out power, heat, and communication services for days. Heavy snowfall and bitter cold can make for a very long drive home, at the very least. And what — no cable TV? Now is the time to start preparing for Old Man Winter by tending to a few simple tasks and — most important — talking with your family about what you’ll do in the event of a major weather emergency or power outage. Pat Ingelse will fill you in on the details.

Wagfest 2015: Elmbrook Humane Society held its annual Wagfest event on Sep 12 at Mitchell Park in Brookfield, and DM Cristen Baumann has details on the delightful dogs who attended.

Golf in Muskego: North Shore Bank sponsored a hole at the superhero-themed Muskego Chamber of Commerce golf outing on Sep 10. Branch Manager Katie Presser and Personal Banker Mary Eckel worked the event all day. “All of the golf foursomes that participated got their picture taken with Superman and other photo booth accessories, right next to our NSB sign!” Katie reports. “The event was a lot of fun, and we had a chance to network with many of our local area businesses.”

Indirect Lending breaks record: This month, our Indirect Lending team set a new North Shore Bank record for annual loan volume, topping $80 million in marine and RV loans. The previous record of $77,549,896 was set in 2007. “The new record is made up of about 3,500 loans at an average of around $22,500 per loan,” reports AVP John Goman. “There are 174 dealers from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan that send us loans, ansd we are the largest marine and RV lender in Wisconsin and Illinois.” Wisconsin remains our biggest market. Congratulations, team! Awesome work.

New security guard at Fox Point: “We had a little critter guarding our employee entrance this morning,” writes Branch Manager Carol Bergen. “He stuck around long enough for everyone to see him. If you can’t tell from the picture, it is a walking stick. I hadn’t seen one in years, and many of my staff had never seen one before!”

Service Anniversaries

These employees are celebrating 5 years with the bank this month! You can congratulate them in the comments.

“Prior to my coming to North Shore Bank, I was semi-retired,” writes Sister Bay Teller Supervisor Becky Redling. “I was approached by a current coworker to come to NSB, and with my many previous years of banking, I knew it was a perfect fit. I have enjoyed getting to know the community and the people of Door County.”

Kudos

A very satisfied customer recently sent this note to Commercial Loan Specialist Heidi Becker and Community Loan Originator Carlos Sanchez:

I appreciate all the hard work that went into this loan. Because of that hard work, my family finally gets to be together again under the same roof — no more sad and crying kids because they miss their daddy. I can’t express enough to you both just how grateful we are. This loan did not come without some bumps in the road, but the end was worth those sleepless nights. So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The customer added:

Carlos, Vince was right about you. He told me you were the man to see! I will highly recommend you to anyone looking for a home loan. You went above and beyond, in my opinion, what you needed to do. Always answered my thousands of questions, and always got back to me in a quick and timely manner. That kind of customer service is hard to come by. So thank you.

Heidi says: “The family was relocating back to Wisconsin from North Dakota — 600 miles away. The husband was already here working, so he’d been separated from his wife and four children.” How great we could help them get happily settled again.

North Shore Shape Up

Fats aren’t the enemy. “We spent the last few decades terrified that fat would make us fat and lead to cardiovascular disease,” nutritionist Meghan Telpner writes at mindbodygreen. “This led to the low-fat and fat-free food craze — which really just replaced fat with sugar and refined carbohydrates. We’ve now learned that we had it wrong: Sugary foods and refined carbs increase our risk of heart disease. … In fact, good fats contain a multitude of health benefits, including nourishing the brain and liver and improving our mood. It’s the source of fat that is key: Choose clean, organic sources from either animals or plants to reap the health rewards.”
