For whom are you thankful?

Next week, we’ll publish a special edition of Shorelines on Wednesday morning. In anticipation of the following day’s Thanksgiving holiday, we’d like to share a list of the people our readers are most thankful for. Send the name of someone you’re thankful for to shorelines@northshorebank.com, along with a short note explaining who they are and why you’re thankful for them — and feel free to include a photo, if you’d like! Thank you.

Your regularly scheduled winter warning

Snow is finally on the horizon! Get prepared now, before the cold sets in and catches you unawares in an emergency situation. Check your snow blower, try to remember the last time you had the furnace cleaned, and make other important preparations now. Pat Ingelse and the rest of the Business Continuity Program Committee have three tips to help you prepare for the frozen season.

Kudos

A little over a week ago, our Allouez branch opened 10 checking accounts in one day, reaching their monthly goal. ABMS Hilary Izzard opened nine health savings accounts that day for a local business, after one employee — who was already a North Shore Bank customer — asked about transferring hers from another financial institution. “Hilary explained that we do offer HSAs, explained all the benefits, and mentioned that if anyone else in her office was dealing with the same thing, we could help them too,” reports DM Kerri Collins. “The customer called back the next day and said everyone was on board, and that they loved that we were a local bank two blocks from their office. They are extremely satisfied, and Hilary is transferring all the funds from the employees’ and their family members’ existing HSAs.”

The business passed along this note:

“Thank YOU for all of your help in making this transition go so smoothly. It’s nice that some banks still offer personal care. Glad to know you are there and we can count on you.”

Celebrations

Help Desk Technician Cliserio Gonzalez and his wife welcomed baby Adrien into the world earlier this month.

Cliserio’s colleagues in Information Systems held a baby shower near the end of October.

North Shore Shape Up

Food, not tablets, for essential vitamins: It’s fine to take a daily vitamin, but you’re better off if the bulk of your nutrients come from actual food. The nutrients found in blueberries, beans, artichokes, and many other fruits and vegetables don’t deliver as strong an effect in pill form. One great way to help ensure you get all of the nutrients your body needs is to “eat the rainbow” — make sure you can see the full spectrum of colors on your weekly menu, because fruits and veggies contain unique nutrition depending on their color.
