Residential Lending rolls with massive new TRID regulations
As you may be aware, the TRID rule went into effect on Oct 3. TRID is the largest change to the residential lending industry in four decades. North Shore Bank has spent the last year preparing for the new regulations, and we’ve made vast changes to our process and procedures in all areas of residential lending. VP Nicole Daniels has the good news: We’re still serving our customers and partners quickly and effectively. Read more.
Around the Bank
Ugly Sweater Day at Union Grove: North Shore Bank participated in the Village of Union Grove’s second annual Ugly Sweater Day, to much fanfare. “The customers loved that we were dressed up for it, and we helped spread the word to increase participation next year,” Branch Manager Amy Sweet reports. “It was a great way to show our support for Christmas Comes to Union Grove and spread some holiday cheer. It also coincided with our chili cook-off — our good deed for the day, with all proceeds benefiting this year’s Relay for Life.” Customers got to vote for their favorite chili. This year’s winner was Teller Linda Ohlsen.
Adopt-a-Family at Northland: This holiday season, the Northland branch adopted a single mother with four children, ages 15, 11, 9, and 4, reports Branch Manager Heather Starr. Through fundraising, plus employee and customer donations, the branch bought, wrapped, and delivered $600 of gifts to the family to brighten their winter.
Seymour on the Shelf “We do the Elf on the Shelf with my son, and he absolutely loves it,” says Area Branch Manager John Ryczek. “So I brought up the idea with my branches to see if they thought it would be fun to do. To make it more North Shore Bank–focused, we chose to use Seymour Savings as our elf. Each night, a different staff member is responsible for the mischief he gets into. It’s been hilarious so far to see what people come up with, and it has been a fun talking point with customers. So far, he’s played poker, zip-lined off of a tree, broken out of a wrapped Christmas gift, and built a snowman out of toilet paper. We’ll see if anyone can top what’s been done so far!”
Promotions: November 2015
We asked employees who were promoted in November what motivated them to work toward their new positions, and what aspects of their new jobs they were excited about. Here’s what they said.
“What motivated me to work toward a promotion was me having determination, great leadership skills, and wanting to advance to the next level, all in all. I work with GREAT people who help me get to where I need to be and prep me for the next role. I like the fact that NSB allows its employees to move up and learn in different areas of banking. What I am most excited about in my new role is having more tasks delegated to me, being the backbone of my branch, and working with new employees who welcomed me with open arms. I am excited for the journey ahead.”
—Tawanda Kelly, Martin Luther King, promoted from Universal Banker to Teller Supervisor
“I am very excited to learn all the new tasks within this role. I look forward to the challenges.”

Service Anniversaries
The following employees celebrate five years with North Shore Bank this month. You can congratulate them in the comments.
“Five years ago, I started working at North Shore Bank on my birthday,” remembers Fox Point Universal Banker Abbey Samenfeld. “A lot of people have asked me why I started a new job on my birthday. Let’s just say I was very eager to begin a life-changing journey! I started working at Shorewood as a part-time teller, then moved to Bayshore, and now I am at Fox Point. I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with so many people along the way whom I now consider my second family! Having been recently promoted to Universal Banker, I have been able to expand my knowledge and have enjoyed building on my relationships with my customers. My journey at North Shore Bank has been awesome, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!”
North Shore Shape Up
Olive oil combats breast cancer: In a six-year study, women who ate a Mediterranean diet — with lots of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and fish — and who consumed four extra tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil daily were found to have lowered their risk of malignant breast cancer by a whopping 68 percent. Look into making your menus more Mediterranean, and replace saturated fat with olive oil whenever possible when preparing meals.
