NSB personnel help retire worn American flags

Allouez branch manager Mickey Adams and teller Olivia Vechart took part in the worn flag retirement ceremony held by American military veterans in Green Bay on November 8.

“We enjoyed spending time with the veterans and all the stories they shared with us,” Mickey said. “We all worked together preparing the flags for burning by folding and then placing them on an iron pole, which was then placed in the burn bin.”

Mickey also presented Old Glory Honor Flight with $1,500. This year’s flag collection was North Shore Bank’s 15th such effort, and in honor of that anniversary, we donated $1 per flag dropped off, up to the $1,500 total.

Next week, we’ll have photos from our flag retirement ceremony in Brookfield. •••

Turnout high for Money Smart seminars

North Shore Bank and Concordia University Wisconsin held a series of three Money Smart financial seminars this fall. “We were very happy with the turnout from our first seminar, with a dozen students, and were even more surprised when we had 20 students turn out for the second!” said Grafton branch manager Jon Coleman. The final seminar was Tuesday.

Grafton universal banker Tori Remstad led the second seminar on November 15, whose focus was budgeting and saving.

“The students have been very engaged in the presentations,” Jon said. “The biggest surprise we’ve had — other than the great turnout! — has been how much interest the students have taken in investing. It is clear there is value to spending a session on investing, given the surprising level of interest among the students.”

Jon also thanked marketing communications manager Kate Knox and marketing coordinator Mary Ott for their help putting together the seminars. •••

Howard-Suamico staff traveled to Chicago on November 12 for a day of to celebrate hitting 150 percent of their annual checking goal for the fiscal year that ended on September 30.

“The branch hit 150.49% of their annual goal,” reported district manager Kerri Collins. “In the last month of the year, they hit 313 percent of their monthly checking goal. They fully capitalized on bank promos, TAF conversations, inbound and outbound calls, and mentions and referrals.” Kerri added that branch manager Tavie Folk was “amazed that they surpassed the challenge.”

While Howard staff visited the Shedd Aquarium, ate, enjoyed Michigan Avenue, and shopped — including buying ugly Christmas sweaters to herald the holiday season — employees from Branch Administration and Green Bay West assistant manager Hali Thompson covered things at the office. “No one had to stay behind,” said branch operations manager Tricia Cravillion. •••

North Shore Shape Up: Stop holiday stress
Aurora EAP wants to help you enjoy a frequently frantic time of year. We’ve got 10 tips that might make life a little easier, including:

161201-shapeupholidaystress

  1. Anticipate potential holiday stressors. Plan ahead in order to balance demands on your time, energy, budget, or patience.
  2. Set realistic goals. Ask yourself if your expectations of yourself are reasonable. If they aren’t, readjust your goals and proceed with holiday plans that are reasonable and enjoyable.
  3. Redefine your sense of family. If your family is distant (physically or emotionally), consider celebrating the holidays with your “family of choice” — friends, loved ones, co-workers. Consider volunteering at this very special time of the year.

Read the rest of the tips here. If you are experiencing difficulties, talk to friends, family, and others who are supportive of you. And remember that your EAP is also available to help at 1-800-236-3231.

Upcoming Events
Lots of holiday events at our branches and in their communities, including the Sussex tree lighting, the Jackson Park tree lighting, the Howard-Suamico Christmas parade, and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops concert. Get the details here.
