Internal SOAR Together scores jumped in 2016
For the past three years, North Shore Bank employees have SOARed ever higher — and last year, the gains were particularly substantial, SVP Sue Doyle reports. In 2016, our internal summary scores for the SOAR Together program leapt from 79 percent in 2015 to 84 percent. Read more about it here!

Race for the Hungry helps charities in eighth year

Allouez branch manager Mickey Adams’s niece Melissa and friend Colin raced against teller Olivia Vechart and ABMS Will Roberts at the Pick ’n Save housing our Green Bay East branch.

North Shore Bank hosted our eighth annual Race for the Hungry events at grocery stores within our communities on December 27. These races engage participants in a head-to-head competition to support local food pantries and win free groceries. Races took place at Pick ’n Save in Green Bay, Piggly Wiggly in Howard, Festival Foods in Kenosha, and El Rey Foodmart in Milwaukee. Find out more about the results here!

Support employees earn rewards for referrals

Marketing VP Kevin Wilderman, winners Katie Nadler and DJ Bluma, VP Craig Witz, and SVP Sue Doyle.

Our support employees have really embraced our “Together, Achieving More” customer referral program, recommending North Shore Bank to friends, family, and others. We’ve helped a number of new customers with marine loans, credit cards, checking accounts, and mortgage loans, among other products. As a result of their hard work, two support employees have earned platinum reward points, as well as cash for helping us start these new relationships. Karen DeGarmo has more information.

Metro North SOARs high internally

Northland adopts family for holidays

For the holidays, Northland staff purchased and collected gifts for a family as part of the Salvation Army–Fox Cities Adopt-a-Family program.

“This was our second year adopting a single mom and her kids for Christmas,” branch manager Heather Starr said. Customers could choose a paper ornament from a tree in the lobby, buy the item listed on it, and bring it back to the bank. The branch also sold candy bars to raise a little more money.

“While we don’t get to personally meet the family we were given, we know they really appreciate the gifts they receive,” Heather says. “By the time we wrapped and loaded all the presents to take to the arranging agency, the trunk of my car was packed full!” •••

Northland staff unleash inner artists

Northland branch employees got a painting lesson on January 2. “Every year, we do a fun branch get-together around the holidays,” branch manager Heather Starr said. “We decided to try something new and had a painting instructor come in and lead a private class for us. It was lots of fun! We all enjoyed our attempts at being artists, but we’re sure not quitting our day jobs!” •••

Kudos: Thanks for the treat!
Each holiday season, our Consumer Credit Sales department sends a small gift to some of our best customers. This year, one happy recipient shared her thanks:

In a time where customer service is hopeful at its best, it is a sad statement when we are surprised when a customer service individual is considerate and does their job.

But to receive an unsolicited gift, “just cuz,” is really lovely!

Thank you so much for the peanut brittle. That kindness goes a long way with me!

All the best to you during this holiday of belief and surprises.

“We send the gifts to our top 200 HELOC customers as a way to say thank you for their business and a way of building loyalty,” says SVP Mike Kellman. “We enclose a little note that I hand-sign to let the customer know we appreciate their business and would love to help them with any financial needs in the future.” •••

North Shore Shape Up: Switch to cash to save money
Know anyone who needs help managing their money? Aurora EAP suggests trying an “all-cash diet”:

Instead of counting calories, this diet requires setting aside your credit cards and only relying on old-fashioned cash to cover day-to-day expenses. By limiting your spending to what’s in your wallet, you’ll be more likely to stick to a budget — and less likely to make impulse purchases with plastic. In other words, you’ll buy only what you need and less of what you simply want.

According to the Federal Reserve, the average American household owes more than $15,000 in credit card debt. People who have switched to all-cash lifestyles for a time say that forcing themselves to live only on what’s in their wallets increased their ability to pay down debt and live within their means.
