Greendale’s Debbie Cottone retires, leaving a legacy
Greendale branch manager Debbie Cottone — who retires tomorrow, May 5 — is quick to name her favorite of all the changes she’s seen since starting her banking career 45 years ago.
“The automation of banking,” she says. “I started when we were still doing hand entries for customers! Automation has allowed us to offer them more options for reaching their financial goals.”
And her least favorite change? Well, that would also be the automation of banking. Read more here about what Debbie loved about working in banking and what she’ll miss after tomorrow.

North Shore Bank raises $1,700+ at March for Babies
A team from North Shore Bank walked in the March for Babies at Veterans Park in Milwaukee on April 29, raising $1,782 for the March of Dimes.
“We are very proud of our achievement, because together we are helping the March of Dimes fund treatments and programs so more moms can have healthy, full-term pregnancies,” says Jeffrey Luczak, AVP, commercial treasury solutions. “Our actions can help lower the premature birth rate around the country, and right in our neighborhood.” •••

New Hires for May 4
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.
Customer assistance rep Carrie Feiker is from Milwaukee and has worked at several banks, including North Shore Bank; most recently, she’s been a stay-at-home mom of three. “I have a slight obsession with essential oils, Twizzlers, and elephants, not necessarily in that order,” she says. “I use oils every day for anything and everything. My family and I are healthier not only physically, but emotionally as well. It makes me feel good that I am able to take care of the people I love the most without having to run to the doctor or take over the counter drugs for every cough or sniffle. Plus, we always smell really good.”
New Berlin personal banker Courtney Ferrell is from Waukesha and was previously a member service representative at AppleTree Credit Union. She says, “I’m a book nerd and have a spreadsheet that family and friends have access to for gift-giving holidays. I’m always adding to it, and it currently has about 280 books listed.” Courtney’s favorite book is Pride and Prejudice (by Jane Austen, of course), and she thinks everyone should read The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien.
Brookfield Square teller Karin Nohelty is from Muskego and previously worked at Buffalo Wild Wings. She is majoring in social services and hopes to become a social worker. “I’ve been afraid of birds since I was 8,” Karin confesses. It all started when she and her father were fishing at the lake while Karin’s sister went swimming. “I caught my first fish that day and wanted to show my sister. I went running with the fish in hand, but happened to run past a crow’s nest and one hungry mama. The crow came flying after me! I dropped the fish, but it still kept attacking me. I was screaming, crying, and running all the way into the lake fully clothed.”
Northland teller Jake Sugden is from Appleton and previously did retail sales for a cellular company. Jake has been an assistant high school wrestling coach for seven seasons and also trains in mixed martial arts. “I did a lot of research and found out most of the big MMA guys were from a wrestling background, so I was very interested in getting into it,” he says. And then in the weight room, one of the wrestling coaches saw Jake watching a practice — “and the rest is history!” he says.
Customer assistance rep Daphne Terrell is a lifelong Milwaukee resident. She previously worked as a fraud support associate at FIS and as a case worker for the state of Wisconsin, helping clients with state benefits. “I am a mother of two boys, ages 2 and 8, so my time at work is kind of my free time!” Daphne says. “Once I get off work, my days are pretty much planned, between the two of them and their activities.” •••
North Shore Shape Up: Foods that lower cholesterol
Berkeley Wellness has a useful list of foods that lower cholesterol. Their experts note that the best ways to reduce your “bad” LDL cholesterol without medication are to consume less saturated fat and trans fat, and to lose weight. Eating the foods on their list helps too. Some items of note:
- You should try to eat four or five cups of fresh produce (vegetables or fruits) every day.
- Half a cup of beans can help reduce cholesterol.
- Eating 1 to 3 ounces of nearly any kind of nuts each day can seriously improve your cholesterol. Watch your serving sizes, though — nuts are really calorie-dense.
- Fish is good for you — and generally healthier than meat — but early findings that fatty fish could help fight cholesterol seem to have been refuted by later studies.
- And despite a lot of hype, there’s no evidence that garlic helps with cholesterol or improves heart health at all
If you can’t access the list from work, you can download a PDF here. Happy eating! •••
