If you’re trying to shed some pounds, Cleveland Clinic Wellness has some important information from a new report: Lack of sleep makes it harder to lose weight. Specifically, the report says:
Sleep loss makes you more likely to eat large portions, choose high-calorie foods, be impulsive about your choices — and be less physically active. Neurochemistry underlies these effects: When you’re sleep deprived, hormones that induce feelings of fullness recede, while those that stimulate hunger increase.
The clinic advises that you develop a nighttime routine to help foster better slumber: “Set a regular bedtime and wake time, cut the cord (metaphorically) to your electronics an hour beforehand, and wind down with some gentle stretches or a hot bath.” Pleasant dreams!
