Caring for an aging parent? Don’t miss this!
Kicking off the bank’s new Caregiver Support program is a discussion with Marsha Vollbrecht, director of senior services at Aurora Health Care. The talk takes place Friday, August 25, at 11 a.m. in the 3rd Floor Presentation Room at Corporate.

“Caring for Aging Parents: Issues You Need To Know About” will cover topics such as: signs to look for, getting those tough conversations started, handling the emotional impact of parenting your parent, and how to honor yourself, the caregiver. Marsha brings a wealth of knowledge to the topic, and this presentation should be very beneficial for anyone who is already or is going to be caring for an older parent. North Shore Shape Up: Try interval walking!
Looking for a simple form of exercise that delivers results? Harvard Health suggests you try interval walking. Interval training is “any form of exercise in which you purposely speed up or slow down at regular intervals throughout the session” — basically, you walk at a regular pace, speed up for an extended burst, and then return to your regular pace and repeat the cycle. Interval training has proven to be remarkably effective, delivering the same benefits that longer regular workouts do, but in a much shorter amount of time.

You can do interval walking outdoors or on a treadmill, and you don’t need much more than a watch or some other timer (your smartphone probably has one) to track your bursts of speed. For more information, you can read the Harvard Health post as a PDF. •••
