Mary Schulz retires this week, closing out 20+ years with bank

Mary Schulz retires tomorrow.

Electronic banking specialist Mary Schulz retires tomorrow, after over 20 years with the bank. “I started working at Marquette Savings Bank in 1996 and became an employee of North Shore Bank in 2000 when they acquired Marquette,” she says.

Mary started as a part-time teller, moved to full time and eventually became a teller supervisor at our Silver Spring branch. In October 2001, she transferred to Corporate and took on her current role.

“I have had a lot of fun working in e-banking. We had many, many good food days,” she says. “And I’ve had the great good fortune of working with smart, intelligent, and really nice people.” She names former employees like Pat Boeckeler and Jan Konkol, as well as current colleagues such as VP, security/payments manager Lyneen Fischer, electronic banking supervisor Wendy Gyles, senior debit risk specialist Bertha Huerta, VP Jude Lengell, debit risk specialists Kate Madderom and Peggy Theisen, customer assistance rep Kelly Schneider, and fellow electronic banking specialists Kelly LaBonte, Jennifer Mooney, and Sharon Ott. “And all of the CSC department,” Mary adds.

“Mary has been a solid member of the debit team,” Wendy says. “Her favorite task is ATM balancing — she loves the challenge of researching and resolving balancing issues. She is very detailed, and we’ve depended on her expertise during acquisitions and the implementation of new ATM terminals.”

Wendy adds: “We’ll miss a lot about Mary: She has a great sense of humor, a beautiful and contagious smile, and she is always the first to volunteer to assist others. She looks forward to learning new tasks and processes, and she has a positive attitude. She is wonderful, kind and giving person.”

Mary’s retirement plans are pretty simple.

“My husband, Bob, and I love to ride our bikes and to walk our three Shelties,” she says. “And I want to take piano lessons again.” She, Bob, and daughters Christine and Karen will also keep up their ukulele lessons together.

“I have numerous crafts I love to do, and I can’t wait to spend more time on them,” Mary says. “I want to hike more, swim more — the list goes on.”
