Diane Cascio retiring, will miss furry visitors to Shorewood

Diane Cascio will leave her teller station for good tomorrow.

Shorewood teller Diane Cascio retires from North Shore Bank tomorrow, after over 13 years of service. She loves her work — particularly her colleagues and customers, not to mention their canine friends! — but notes that she and her husband, Frank, are getting older. “I just feel like it’s time to spend some more time with him now,” she says.

“I was very lucky to hire Diane back in 2004,” says retirement program services manager Becky Reinhardt, who was the Shorewood branch manager at the time. “Her smile, cash handling experience, and customer service skills fit right into our team. I will miss being greeted with her smile when I visit the Shorewood office, but I wish her great health and much happiness on her retirement adventure!”

Diane talked to Shorelines about her career at the bank.

How did you end up working at North Shore Bank?
I was working at a grocery store, but I really wanted to work at a bank. Honestly, I was tired of the hours at the grocery store — you had to work every holiday. I figured a bank would be a good change!

My son’s friend Brian worked at the East branch, and I’d heard North Shore was just a great place to work. At that time, M&I Bank was still open, and I did get an offer from them. But once I interviewed at Shorewood and met Becky, I just had to work with her. She was so wonderful.

What was the shift from the grocery store to banking like?
It was a big change. It was a little difficult for me, because I’m not really computer-savvy. There was a lot to learn, all different stuff — wire transfers, savings bonds, different accounts. But it all worked out — you know, I’ve been here for 13 years!

What’s been your favorite part of banking?
There are so many. But the customers are really enjoyable. We have a few who bring their dogs in. I buy my own treats for them, so all the dogs know me. They come running to my station — they know right where to go.

What do you and Frank have planned for your retirement?
Right now, we’re just going to take it as it comes. Winter’s coming, so we’ll stick around the house and take it easy. Then we’ll see what happens when it warms up.
