Departments collaborate on tool to make IRAs easier

A screenshot from the IRA Advisor tool.

Our Human Resources, Information Services, Branch Administration, and IRA departments recently collaborated on a powerful new tool to help our retail bankers open and work with IRA accounts more easily and with fewer mistakes. The IRA Advisor software can be accessed online and walks bankers through the steps necessary to open a new IRA account or contribute to an existing IRA.

“It’s very user-friendly and includes all of the relevant information branch staff need to handle IRA transactions,” says branch sales manager Craig Witz, who came up with the idea for the tool. “IRAs have very specific rules, limits, and codes that need to be applied — and if you don’t work with them every day, it’s hard to get them all right. The tool minimizes the chance of errors.” Read more about this great achievement and cool new software here!

Branch changes streamline banking for customers
Over the next few months, North Shore Bank will be implementing modifications in our markets that give customers greater access to our innovative financial tools and banking services. Among other things, we will install stand-alone video teller units at two El Rey grocery stores; convert our Silver Spring branch to a stand-alone video teller site; and relocate our Bayshore branch to its own facility on Silver Spring Drive.

Craig Witz has more information about what’s ahead for retail banking in 2018 — please take a look!

IT employees get arty on outing

IT employees show off their creative genius. Seated: DJ Bluma, Sherri Scalish, Dorothy Beringer, Wendy Repka, and Katie Nadler. Standing: Roger Arnesen, Arlen Tsao, Jason Roloff, Kinnon Schreiber, Brandon McCullough, Dana, Judy Plautz, and Pam Bradley.

Last Friday, the IT team took their annual outing. This year, they visited Creative Art studio in New Berlin, where they practiced their painting chops. “We try to get out of the office as a group at least once a year to do something fun,” says Dana Scherff, vice president, information systems.

“I had a great time painting for our outing and would highly recommend it to anyone,” senior infrastructure specialist Jason Roloff says. “My painting, surprisingly, looked better than I thought it would, as I am not the most artistic!” •••

Take advantage of the bank’s internal job postings
Every week in Shorelines, we list the latest internal job postings — open positions that you can check out before we share them with the public. Here’s a quick guide to looking at and applying for them:

  1. Go to the intranet and click on Human Resources on the left-hand side.
  2. Click on Internal Career Opportunities.
  3. Click on Internal Openings.
  4. Click on Search Current Openings.
  5. Click on Current Listing.

Positions are posted internally for four days before we share them externally with the public. If you saw a position but didn’t have a chance to apply before it went external, just notify talent acquisition manager Janet Rosenthal at jrosenthal@northshorebank.com and she’ll explain how to apply.

Finally, if you’re interested in changing positions but don’t see any internal postings listed, you can view all of the bank’s current openings: Go to the intranet, click on Human Resources and then follow Careers > Career Opportunities > Search Current Openings > Perform Search. •••

New Hires for February 1
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Green Bay East and Allouez teller Rachel Jordan was born and raised in Green Bay and worked for over seven years at Mills Fleet Farm West while getting her bachelor’s degree in business administration from UW-Green Bay. “The one interesting fact about me is that I met my boyfriend, Andrew, online on Valentine’s Day in 2016,” Rachel says, “and we got engaged over this past weekend!” Congratulations, Rachel! •••

North Shore Shape Up: Get results from your Fitbit
Did you get a Fitbit, an Apple Watch, or a similar activity tracker for Christmas? These handy little devices are a great way to get moving and improve your health. But, the folks at Cleveland Clinic Wellness warn, you won’t see big gains unless you combine your activity tracker with a strategy. You should set goals for yourself, and you may want to consider working with a wellness coach.

“When people in a recent study used trackers without specific goals, their physical activity levels actually declined, though many believed they were getting more exercise,” the clinic says. In other words, just wearing your Fitbit isn’t enough. Choose a daily goal for yourself (like the standard 10,000 steps) and then keep track of your progress, so you can see that you’re meeting that goal. Finding a coach or trainer may help too! •••
