Retiring Marsha Nowak will miss her NSB family
“When I left other places, I always had a job in place!” says deposit services representative Marsha Nowak, who retires next Friday, March 30. “So this is going to be different.”
Marsha spoke to Shorelines about her future plans and what she wanted to do besides banking. Please take a look and wish her well!
Scrabble Bee supports literacy in Green Bay
North Shore Bank employees took part in Literacy Green Bay’s Scrabble Bee on March 1, an annual fundraiser for the group, at the Swan Club in De Pere. Steven Rewolinski, VP, business banking (pictured above, in sport coat), serves on Literacy Green Bay’s board and was part of the event, along with VP and commercial treasury manager Penny Foust and VP and commercial loan officer Jim Goetz.
“There were two big games of Scrabble with very liberal rules, so there were definitely some made-up words and you were able to bribe the judges, etc.,” Steve jokes. “We did not win, but a good time was had by all. The proceeds raised were over $52,000, which exceeded the goal of $50,000, and that will help fund most of LGB’s programs for a year.” •••
Swing with Shorewood raises funds for public schools
North Shore Bank employees attended Swing with Shorewood on March 10 in Milwaukee, held by the Shorewood SEED Foundation to support the town’s public schools.
Area manager Shannon Weber estimated that about 300 people attended. The goal of the evening was to raise $100,000.
“There were many customers and other members of the community there,” Shannon said. “I had one customer run up and grab me to hug me, and then tell my husband how great North Shore Bank has been for her and her family. So sweet.”

New Hires for March 22
Mortgage loan originator Lana Arrowood was born and raised in Muskego, “and even built a house right next to where I grew up,” she says. Before coming to North Shore Bank, she was an assistant vice president and loan officer for Citizens Bank. She says, “I had been there for the past 23 years and most recently worked at their New Berlin office.” Lana says she has never been on a weeklong vacation in her life, except for a camping trip with her parents when she was 10, when they visited a wood-carving museum in Colorado. “I really need to get out more! I look forward to planning an actual vacation sometime this year,” she says. Any suggestions where she should go?
Fox Point teller Kathryn Kleeburger is from Fox Point and previously worked as a manager at FedEx Office. “I have a 90-pound dog who thinks she’s a lap dog,” Katie says. The pup’s name is Bella. “We believe that she is a Great Dane/boxer mix, and she will sit or lie on me with all of her weight.” Woof!
Consumer credit adjustor Martin Tiggs is from Brown Deer and previously worked in collections at Landmark Credit Union’s corporate office in New Berlin. “Tae kwon do is my favorite sport. I’m a first-degree black belt,” Marty says. “I started practicing when I was 16. I enjoy the discipline, competitions, and how it keeps me grounded.” •••
North Shore Shape Up: Put away your phone, get happier!
In health news that probably won’t surprise anyone, Cleveland Clinic Wellness reports on research that has found that smartphone usage can have a negative impact on our emotions:
[M]ore than 300 people were randomly assigned to have their phones on the table or put away while dining with friends and family, and were then surveyed about their experience. Those who put their phones away experienced less distraction, more enjoyment, and even less boredom than those who had their phones out. Another study showed the same pattern in other settings, with participants enjoying their interactions more if they hadn’t used their phones in the previous 15 minutes.
It can be hard to disconnect, but making the effort to do so when you’re with family and friends is a good idea. Give it a try and declare meals, family gatherings, and similar events “no-phone zones” where you can focus on the people in front of you. •••
