Sturgeon Bay’s Barbara Nelson retires Friday
After she retires on Friday, Sturgeon Bay East teller Barbara Nelson hopes to trade handling bills and coins for panning for gold.

Barbara started at North Shore Bank when she and her husband moved to Sturgeon Bay in 2014. Before that, she had worked for eight years at First National Bank in Berlin. She began there as a teller and eventually become executive assistant to the bank’s president.

“I worked my way up!” she says. “It was wonderful — just a great job.”

At North Shore Bank, she enjoyed returning to her duties on the line, she says. “It worked out well. All I wanted to do was be a teller. I like working with people.” Read more about Barbara’s career and plans!

Seymour races against fellow mascots at Appleton 5K

Seymour Savings and North Shore Bank helped kick off the 8th annual OSI/Miron April Fools’ 5K Fun Run/Walk in Appleton on March 23 to benefit Appleton High School athletics. Played by customer Kyle Van Lith, Seymour took part in a mascot mini dash before the main race. Appleton Northland teller Kathleen Veu attended as Seymour’s “spotter,” taking photos and helping him on and off the bus.

“It was a great time!” Kathleen reports. “The mascots were at the end of the race to cheer on all the runners. There was a DJ at the start and end of the race, and the mascots got to dance with the runners and have fun. There was even a selfie contest before the race, in which the runners needed to get a picture with the all of the mascots to win a prize.” •••

Roberts is one funny bunny

Green Bay East assistant branch manager–sales Will Roberts got into the Easter spirit last week. “He wants everyone to hop in to open a new checking account and is also very ‘hoppy’ he met his checking goal for the month,” reported area branch manager/AVP Mickey Adams. Will wore the bunny head when kids came into the branch on and off throughout the day. “They LOVED it,” Mickey says. •••

New Hires for April 5
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Kenosha Central teller Lourdes Escobedo is from Racine and previously held a sales internship at Environmental Innovations. She is also pursuing a bachelor’s in marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. “I’m currently learning how to play the piano, which is something I’ve wanted to do since elementary school,” she says. “After I get the hang of it, I’m probably going to learn how to play the violin.”

Appleton Northland teller Tisha Kucukaslan is originally from Clintonville and worked at Zales for the last three years, first as a jewelry consultant and then as an assistant manager. “I really love to travel,” she says. “My husband and I try to go to one place we’ve never been every year — it’s New Orleans this year So far I’ve been to 39 states and five countries, and I hope to check even more off in the coming years.” Her trip last summer to visit her husband’s family in his native Turkey was a real highlight. “There is a region/national park of sorts called Kapadokya that has ancient houses carved out of stone hills that was incredible.”

Michael Moran, AVP, business banking, lives in Oak Creek and previously worked as a commercial relationship manager for PNC Bank. Mike was a sergeant in the Army, served two tours in the Iraq War, and was elected board president of the Wisconsin Veterans Chamber of Commerce this year. “I have been on the board and various committees since the chamber’s inception about three years ago now,” he says. The chamber supports veterans and military families throughout the state by helping improve the business climate for vets and the businesses that hire them. •••

North Shore Shape Up: Using technology can hurt
We frequently hear about the effects of digital technology on our attention spans and general mental health, but Harvard Health notes that using computers and handheld devices can have an adverse impact on our bodies, too: The repetitive motions involved in typing, swiping, and tapping can exacerbate hand pain or numbness and tingling. Electronics also often impact our posture, which can lead to neck and back pain.

The post says:

It’s not true that typing on a laptop or desktop keyboard will cause carpal tunnel syndrome—a condition in which the median nerve is compressed as it passes through a small area at the wrist known as the carpal tunnel. But … typing may bring out the symptoms of the condition, such as pain, tingling, and numbness in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and inner half of the ring finger.

If you are suffering from chronic physical discomfort resulting from use of devices, you’ll want to consider changing how you operate them. For instance: “If texting with your thumbs causes pain, you may need to use other fingers to text, or use a stylus.” For more tips, you can visit the link or read the Harvard Health post as a PDF. •••
