Facilities manager Bob Effinger ready for a new chapter
Facilities and services manager Bob Effinger, who joined North Shore Bank when we acquired Maritime Savings in 2010, will retire on Monday, July 2. He took time to answer some questions from Shorelines.

Molly Schissler, SVP, HR & Compliance, said: “It’s been a great pleasure to work with Bob since he joined us as part of the Maritime acquisition as our building engineer. His experience, along with his easy style and good-natured approach to his work, contributed greatly when he took over as facilities and service manager in early 2017. I know I speak for many here, especially at the Corporate location, when I say Bob will be greatly missed.” Read on to hear more from Bob!

Appleton Flag Day Parade honors bank

Menasha and Northland employees were part of the Appleton Flag Day Parade on June 9. This was the bank’s 28th year of participation. Assistant branch manager Lacee Kalepp and her kids, and tellers Kathleen Veu, Kim Helms, and Tisha Kucukaslan all walked, while Menasha branch manager Deb Cumming and her husband pulled the float. North Shore Bank was also honored with the Patriot Award, which recognizes longtime commitment to the parade.

Commercial Banking team members went to an escape room on June 15. “We split up into two teams and did two identical escape rooms to see who could escape the fastest, if at all,” reported Jeff Luczak, commercial treasury solutions. He said that neither team made it out in the allotted hour, but everyone had fun regardless.

Cruz’s sons help get baseball team to state

West Allis branch manager Marie Cruz’s sons Natanael and Tomas Pinet and the rest of Milwaukee’s Rufus King High School baseball team made it to this year’s state tournament — the first time the team’s gotten there in 15 years.

Though the Generals lost in the first round to Janesville Craig, Marie was still incredibly proud of her boys’ and their teammates’ achievement. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel cited senior Tomas’s pitching as one major reason they made it so far, and noted that freshman Natanael was a first-team all-City selection this year.

Fox 6 also quoted Tomas in the headline of a story about the King team — he told the station the Generals were “hungry for a title.”

North Shore Shape Up: Red meat linked to health problems
One simple way to improve your health is to eat less red meat. The evidence is clear and striking, Cleveland Clinic Wellness says:

According to a 16-year observational study of more than a half-million adults, consuming beef, lamb, and pork substantially and importantly up your odds of dying from eight — yes, eight — conditions: cancer, heart disease, respiratory diseases, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, and liver disease.

Chicken and turkey fans are in the clear, though, as white meat was associated with health benefits. The clinic recommends that you also include plenty of fish and plant-based protein, too. •••
