Question of the Month: What are you thankful for?
As Thanksgiving draws near, Shorelines would like to hear what you’re grateful for. But there’s one catch:

Whenever people are asked what they’re thankful for, they inevitably mention other people — their families, their friends, even their colleagues (if they’re lucky enough to work somewhere like North Shore Bank). So we’re changing it up: What are you thankful for that isn’t another person?

  • Once you’ve decided on your answer, send it to shorelines@northshorebank.com. Make sure to include your name, current job title, and branch or department.
  • Include a picture of whatever it is you’re thankful for, if you’ve got one! (If you can’t email the pic, text it to 608-318-3348.)
  • Deadline is Monday, November 19.

We’ll run everyone’s responses in Shorelines on Wednesday, November 21, to get you in the proper mood for the next day’s festivities. Thanks! 🦃 •••

Top manager Lazarski focuses on helping customers
Our Wrap-Up Rallies for fiscal year 2018 are all, well, wrapped up, and our top-performing branch managers and branches have been named. This month, we celebrate their achievements and dig in to how they did it. First up: Joline Lazarski at Southwest.

“Joline has always stayed on top of the branch’s production and is able to put extra focus on different areas when needed,” district manager Lauri Lunde says. “She has a great ability to adjust activities and behaviors to get different and better results.” And that’s a big part of why this is Joline’s sixth time being named a top branch manager. The contest will fund four initiatives: $1,923 each for projects in the bank’s regions (North, Central, Central MPS, and South).

District operations specialists to help branches

At the kickoff: Margie, Danielle, Jayme, and Jill.

We’re ready! Our new team of district operations specialists is in place and raring to go.

Led by district operations manager Margie Brusa, the team held an official kickoff meeting on October 30. The three new specialists are Jayme Clarey, Jill Heule, and Danielle Ritz.

Their job is to help branches stay compliant with bank policies and procedures. “We will be doing mini audits every other month,” Margie says. “And when branches get new managers or teller supervisors, we will provide operational training and support for them.” District operations specialists will also participate in operational meetings and Skill Builders sessions, and will be available on the bank’s Request for Support, too.

Margie will be based out of the New Berlin office and cover the Metro South District. Jayme will be in Kenosha Main and cover the South District. Jill works out of Appleton Northland and covers the North District. And Danielle is at Sussex and covers Metro North.

The district operations specialists will be contacting their branches soon to introduce themselves. You can reach them via email, the Request for Support, or their individual phone extensions (Margie at 4534, Danielle at 4819, Jayme at 4846, and Jill at 4615). “We’re looking forward to helping all of our branches with their operational questions, trainings, and concerns,” Margie says. •••

Employees’ kids trick-or-treat throughout Corporate

Employees’ children, grandchildren, and other young family members trick-or-treated at Corporate on October 26.

“My kids LOVED it!” said branch operations support supervisor Beth Wianecki, pictured above with kids Addie, 4, and Elora, 1½, and husband Ben. “They were running from one area to another. They even bombarded Roger Arnesen in IS when we accidentally stopped on the 3rd Floor! He was a good sport and shared some candy with them, even though the 3rd Floor was not a trick-or-treat location. I couldn’t believe how many treats and toys they ended up coming home with. Everyone did such a great job putting the event together!”

The Corporate Community Outreach Committee organized the fun, which started in the Business Banking foyer on the 1st Floor, where the costumed kids each received a bag for treats and a passport map that led them to two stops on the 5th Floor, one on the 4th, a stop on the 2nd Floor, and then to the lower level, where they could do a craft project and enjoy a snack. Night of the Ghost Train attracts around 700

North Shore Bank once again sponsored the Night of the Ghost Train in Shorewood on October 31. The annual Halloween event features a bridge lit up every 15 minutes to evoke the spooky titular form of transportation. We also handed out trick-or-treat bags to young attendees and ran a costume contest. Community businesses set up booths to trick-or-treat at.

North Shore Shape Up: Coffee may improve rosacea
More than 14 million people in the United States have rosacea, a skin condition that manifests as overly pink or red cheeks and that can also affect other parts of the face and body. Though rosacea isn’t dangerous, it doesn’t look great. People who have it can often control it by changing their diet — and since caffeine has long been believed to trigger rosacea, that means those people frequently don’t drink coffee.

However, Harvard Health Blog reports on a new study of almost 83,000 women that suggests drinking coffee may actually reduce instances of rosacea. As the blog puts it: “Those drinking four or more cups of coffee per day were significantly less likely to report a diagnosis of rosacea than those who drank little or no coffee.” Drinking less coffee seemed to help, too, though not as much.

The study also found no link between consuming caffeine in other foods and the likelihood of reporting rosacea. And though the researchers cannot say drinking coffee caused reductions in rosacea, the upshot for folks with rosacea is that maybe they don’t need to avoid a piping-hot cup of joe after all. •••
