Northland gathers gifts for Fox Cities foster kids

The Northland branch sponsored 14 foster children in the Fox Cities area this holiday season, purchasing gifts for the kids, who range in age from 1 to 16. “Between money raised from candy bar sales in the branch, customer and employee donations, and HBBA networking group contributions, we were able to get almost every item on the list for each child we sponsored,” reports teller supervisor Tisha Kucukaslan. The gifts include everything from electric toothbrushes to baby dolls to Wisconsin Badgers apparel, she said.

Pictured with some of the bags of presents are teller Kim Balser, Tisha, former branch manager Heather Starr, branch manager Lacee Kalepp, and personal banker Kelly Kading. •••

Last week, a customer dropped off eight boxes of toys at the Bayshore branch for the bank’s holiday Toys for Tots collection, totaling at least 60 toys, reports branch manager Stephanie Bluemel. Shorewood employees celebrate client’s grand opening

Crux Chiropractic, a new Shorewood business and North Shore Bank customer, invited our branch employees there to celebrate its grand opening on December 5. “I was excited to see what they’ve accomplished, and I’m glad we were able to be part of this big day,” branch manager Shannon Weber said. Crux’s owners first opened an account in April, when they were operating out of the back room of another business, she added. “We’ve been here to help with their day-to-day banking needs and are working to expand the relationship.”

North Shore Shape Up: Women’s midlife moods
Much attention is paid to the physical changes women go through as they age. But, Cleveland Clinic Wellness reports, now more medical researchers are looking at the impact of aging on women’s mental health as well:

Women going through perimenopause, the time before menopause when hormones are declining, may be particularly vulnerable to depression, according to a new report. For many women, midlife is filled with changes and challenges, both internally and externally. While dealing with symptoms like hot flashes and sleep problems, many women are also feeling the pressures of raising children or having them leave home, caring for aging parents, managing intense career demands, or all of the above. For women who’ve had low-level depression, perimenopause can worsen symptoms, and first-time depression or a recurrence of major depression are common, too.

The clinic recommends women contact their physician or therapist if they notice a change in mood for the worse. There are a number of possible remedies, but you’re not stuck feeling blue! •••
