Shredding Day slated for May 4

On last year’s Shredding Day, mortgage loan officer Greg Kroll and teller Razalyn Brock helped a long line of customers at East.

It’s time to get destructive — in a good way! Our 13th annual free Community Shredding Day will take place on May 4. Members of the public who want to get rid of sensitive documents can dispose of them safely and securely at North Shore Bank branches, to prevent identity theft.

All branches will accept small amounts of paper materials for destruction, but anyone with a lot of documents (a bag or more) should visit one of the locations that will have a special shredding truck on site:

  • Allouez
  • Appleton Northland
  • Atwater Elementary (2100 East Capitol Drive, Shorewood)
  • Brookfield Square/Corporate
  • Howard-Suamico
  • Kenosha Main
  • Regency
  • Southridge/Greendale

Last year, we took in over 40 tons of paper to shred.

Shredding Day will take place rain or shine. All shredded materials are recycled after collection. Acceptable material for shredding includes paper with staples and paper clips. Unacceptable materials include three- or four-ring binders, folders with the long skinny metal strips to hold papers in place, and black metal spring clips or anything similar. These items need to be separated and thrown in the trash or reused. Metro South scores high on internal SOAR survey

In March and April, the Metro South District invited internal customers to take the internal SOAR Together survey and rate their satisfaction with the service they’ve received from the district’s branches. District manager Lauri Lunde is proud to announce that Metro South scored 6.45 overall, and has more information here about the survey results — including some of the many fabulous comments recognizing North Shore Bank employees who’ve truly SOARed.

Burlington, insurance firm partner for fraud seminar

The Burlington branch partnered with insurance broker Ansay & Associates for a business fraud prevention seminar on March 19.

Branch manager Robin Callis and VP, commercial treasury manager Penny Foust, and Ansay & Associates representatives presented the seminar, which was developed by our business banking department. Topics included email, check, credit card, insurance, and cyber fraud, and the benefits of using the Positive Pay fraud prevention system.

“We were fortunate to have a very well-respected, longtime insurance agency partner with us,” Robin said. Penny is pictured above, standing at far right, with Corina and Mike from Ansay & Associates. •••

New Hires for April 18
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Bayshore universal banker Maria Ferretti is originally from Brazil and has lived in Milwaukee since 1994. She previously worked at PNC Bank as a universal banker. She loves taking long walks and is the mother of three boys, and says she misses a lot about her home country — “my family, the food, and of course the weather!” But, she adds, “In Wisconsin I really enjoy the cheese and the summer. I could never deal with the winter.”

Kenosha Main teller Rose Haney is a lifelong resident of Wisconsin and is coming from almost three decades in education. “I just needed a change,” she says. “When I announced to my students that I was planning to take a different career path, I asked for their suggestions, since I hadn’t decided what I wanted to pursue. The consensus was that I should be a comedian! I was thrilled with that and declared that I’d look into it. The students were excited and asked if they could attend a show if I did one. I told them they may want to reconsider, since THEY would be the topic of any material that I shared!”

Debit card and ATM processing manager Beth Johnson is from Franklin and previously worked as director of operations for Universal Processing Services of Wisconsin (which does business as Newtek). Beth and her family are big Brewers fans. “We are looking forward to another fantastic season for the Crew,” she says. “When the warm summer days pass, we will be excited for October postseason baseball at Miller Park — I’d love to see them make it to the World Series.”

Kenosha South assistant branch manager–sales Shane Klimek was born and raised in Racine and previously worked at Shopko as a general merchandise manager. He likes going to sporting events with his 9-year-old daughter, Caitlin. “We go to as many Bucks and Brewers games as we can,” he says. “It’s a great bonding experience, and she has a real knack for getting memorabilia or prizes at games. In the past year, she caught a foul ball at a Brewers game and two T-shirts at one Bucks game — which has left my inner child pretty envious of her!” •••

Colleagues attend shower, celebrate with Apklin Davis

Deposit operations representative Takeisha Apklin Davis celebrated the imminent arrival of her first child at a baby shower on April 13. “My due date is May 17 — not sure I’m going to make it that far!” she said. She and husband Terrence are expecting a daughter.

Above are customer care specialist Sharon Phillips, Takeisha, and customer care representative Deondra Brown at the shower. Wauwatosa personal banker Michelle Escalante also attended, as did checking service manager Erica Johnson, who shared her talents as a cook by bringing some delicious meatballs. “I was truly ecstatic and blessed to be surrounded by love, family, and lifelong friendships!” Takeisha said. •••

North Shore Shape Up: Exercise can slow aging

Obviously, exercise is good for us. But new research suggests it can actually serve as a fountain of youth! Cleveland Clinic Wellness reports:

When researchers compared a group of older men and women who had exercised for most of their adult lives with a group who hadn’t, they found some startling differences. Unlike the group who were not active, the life-long exercisers retained their muscle mass and strength, didn’t experience increases in body fat or cholesterol, and had the same immune-system functioning as much younger adults. In other words, the regular exercisers avoided some of the “normal” declines of aging. But here’s another way of thinking about it: Being sedentary speeds up the aging process, whereas being active is our body’s natural, normal, healthy state!

In other words, it’s a good idea to be aware of how much time you spend sitting every day, whether it’s at a desk, in the car, or on the couch. To start feeling younger, get your body moving more often. •••
