Video teller Erika Garcia explains job to son’s 4K classmates

Earlier this month, bilingual video teller Erika Garcia visited her son Uriel’s 4K class at Shady Lane Elementary in Menomonee Falls to give a presentation about her job at North Shore Bank.

“Each kid has a week when they are the ‘star’ and their parents are encouraged to go in and talk about their jobs and read a book to the class,” said Erika, pictured at right with Uriel. She and her husband, Aldo, visited the class on April 10.

She said she described her job to the children by saying that bank customers “touch the screen in the video teller machine and talk to me, and I can help them.”

A lot of the students had seen ATMs and video teller machines, but not many knew what a bank was, Erika said. “I explained that a bank is like a piggy bank but is a building,” she said. The students also enjoyed the Seymour Savings–branded gifts and other swag she brought along: pencils, coloring books, stickers — “and of course a $5 bill coloring page to hopefully help them open a savings account.”
