Care for your customers, advises retiring Linda Ohlsen
Union Grove teller Linda Ohlsen retires next Thursday, August 1, after 32 years at North Shore Bank.

Last week, she shared a few words with Shorelines about her career and plans, along with some wisdom for the tellers who will follow in her footsteps. See what Linda had to say.

McKenna honored to be part of NSB for 20 years
This week, president and COO Jay McKenna marks 20 years of service to North Shore Bank. In honor of the milestone, he shared some thoughts with Shorelines:

Looking back it has been a great 20 years. My time at North Shore coincides with my kids going from newborn or unborn to almost grown. We all know how “fast” our kids grow up, so my time here has really flown.

I tell people that it is an honor, privilege, and blessing to work for this company. It was true 20 years ago, and it remains especially true today, as there are now 195 Wisconsin banks (and falling) compared with 389 20 years ago! A testament to what we are is the large number of people who have been at North Shore for 10, 20, and 30-plus years. I am happy to be in such great company with those individuals. The business challenges we faced 20 years ago are in many ways the same, but also quite different. As we all know, there is rarely a dull day in banking. I am looking forward to the next chapter with all of my colleagues at North Shore Bank. •••

Volunteer at Wagfest, help support “puppy heaven”

Deposit services manager Natalie Canadeo with a tuckered-out buddy during a volunteer shift at Elmbrook Humane Society.

Volunteering isn’t most folks’ idea of paradise, but deposit services manager Natalie Canadeo describes Elmbrook Humane Society, where she spends a few hours helping out every weekend, as “puppy heaven.”

Natalie spoke with Shorelines about what she does at EBHS, whose 12th annual Wagfest will take place on Saturday, September 7, at Mitchell Park in Brookfield. If you’re interested in volunteering at North Shore Bank’s Wagfest booth and to see what Natalie had to say — along with a bunch of photos of cute doggos — just click here.

Loan and mortgage SOAR survey yields helpful feedback
Thank you for completing the recent SOAR survey on the Loan Operations and Mortgage Originations departments! The feedback we receive each year from this survey is very helpful — in many cases it reinforces some of the changes we have implemented, and in other cases it highlights areas where we need to focus some attention.

Overall this year, the responses were very positive. We are committed to a smooth process for our customers both internal and external, and we invite your feedback. If there is something you see throughout the year, please do not wait for the survey — just reach out to either of us as soon as you can. Working together we achieve more!

New Hires for July 25
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

New Berlin personal banker Michael Bergevain was born and raised in Milwaukee and worked at Walgreens for almost six years. “I love to travel with my girlfriend,” Michael says. “We recently visited Los Angeles last year, and we will be headed to New York and Washington, D.C. this year, and Orlando and Miami early next year. In L.A., we visited the OUE Skyspace, which is the tallest building in the city. We went on the glass slide that goes off the side of the building and visited the courtyard for outside viewing, which was amazing. But the main reason we visited L.A. was to go to Disneyland, and we will be going to Disney World in Orlando.”

Mortgage loan originator Jeffrey Burkhart has lived in Germantown for the past 20 years. He previously worked at Chase. “I am a huge sports fan of all Wisconsin teams and also enjoy golfing,” Jeff says. “My favorite Wisconsin moment was when the Badgers beat then–no. 1 Ohio State 31-18 in football in 2010. It was a night game, so the crowd was crazy!”

Howard-Suamico universal banker Brooke Hillsberg was born and raised in Green Bay. She was a teller at Nicolet National Bank and worked at Hallmark in Green Bay as acting store manager for the past six months. “Now that they have found someone to take on the position I decided to get back into the banking world,” she says. “When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my dog and my nephew. My family is unique in that we all live very close. My sister and her family live down the block, my parents live one street over, and my grandfather lives next door to me.” •••
