Wagfest 2019 draws large crowd of pups and humans

Thousands of good boys and good girls came out for Elmbrook Humane Society’s 12th annual Wagfest on Saturday, September 7, at Brookfield’s Mitchell Park, accompanied by around 5,000 human owners. And North Shore Bank was part of the furry fun.

“Our booth gets very busy!” reported district manager Cristen Baumann. “We have several customers visit us — one husband and wife from our Mequon branch attend every year.” Read more about the event and see pics of pups here!

First Shorewood Feast will offer lots of food, fun
Hungry for some new fun? Head to Shorewood this Saturday, September 14, for the inaugural North Shore Bank Shorewood Feast.

The street festival will begin at 11 a.m. and morph into an outdoor dining experience in the middle of Oakland Avenue as evening approaches. Diners who purchase tickets for the first of two seatings will enjoy a five-course family-style dinner; the second seating will be for a seven-course plated meal.

Before dinner, the feast will be free to the public and feature a block party, live music on two stages, cheese tastings, and a beer tent, along with lots of activities for families and kids. Local artisans, merchants, and food vendors will also peddle their offerings throughout the day.

“North Shore Bank has been focused on our customers and community in Shorewood for over 95 years, so it only makes sense for us to partner with the Shorewood BID to be the title sponsor for the feast,” Shorewood branch manager Shannon Weber said. “We’re proud to bring everyone together to enjoy tasty food and drink, music, and each other’s company!”

Employees enter spelling bee to support literacy

As in 2018, North Shore Bank once again fielded a team for the Adult Literacy Center of Ozaukee County’s adult spelling bee fundraiser.

This year’s third annual “Spellers of Oz” event featured a Wizard of Oz theme, along with dinner, drinks, and a silent auction. Pictured above, our team competed under the name “There’s No Place Like North Shore Bank” and consisted of seasoned veteran speller Mequon teller Doug Tuhro, personal banker David Panitzke, and Grafton personal banker Coral Jordan.

Though the results didn’t match last year’s, when the NSB team placed second, the bee was still worthwhile. “We had fun and it is a great cause,” David said, “but it’s a good thing we work in numbers.” •••

Racine employees get gussied up for zoo fundraiser

North Shore Bank employees were dressed to dazzle and in attendance at this year’s Racine Zoo Debut on Saturday, September 7. This year’s theme was “Under the Sea.” The black-tie event is a major fundraiser for the zoo, whose Giraffe Encounter we sponsor.

“It is an amazing night where we get to celebrate the successes of the summer season at the zoo and join the ‘who’s who’ of the Racine community for a night of fundraising for an amazing attraction in our community,” Northside branch manager Lisa Brooks said. “We wore our finest black-tie attire and a fun time was had by all.”

Kudos for September 12

A customer thanked senior residential loan specialist Marta Acosta this week for her excellent customer service with a rose plant. Marta is pictured above with her gift.

“She was extremely thankful that I took the time to meet with her and go over all the initial application disclosures,” Marta said. “Taking the time to show that we care about our customers made her happy and she was back the following day to thank me with the rose plant. It was very nice of her to do that!”

And a customer called Corporate with nice things to say about Westgate teller Jessica Cranley and teller supervisor Lisa Gagliardi. The customer described the two as “the most awesome-sauce tellers ever! They know me by name, make me feel valued, and take pride in their work. They know the meaning of good customer service and they show it.” Nice work, everybody! •••

New Hires for September 12
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.

Union Grove teller Rose Gagliardo is from Kenosha and previously worked as a key holder/beauty consultant for two well-known beauty retailers. She says, “I really enjoy learning new techniques and beauty tricks for applying not only my own but other people’s makeup as well.” She likes to travel with her boyfriend and family, and spent a week this summer in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with her parents, brother-in-law, and sister, Westgate teller supervisor Lisa Gagliardi. (No, that’s not a typo.) “My favorite part was spending time swimming in the ocean and going to an alligator sanctuary,” Rose says.

Traveling teller Kim Rohn is from Wisconsin and lives in Waukesha. She worked at Walmart for 21 years, until she left the company in 2017. “My fiancé and I run a small business,” Kim says. “We make soap, solid lotions, and beard products that we sell online and at craft fairs. We turned our hobby into a business!” •••

Bank’s new customer getting a head start on saving

Four-month-old Maddie came into the Northside branch this week to open a Seymour Savings account. “She was so eager to start saving, she couldn’t wait to make her mark on her first check deposit,” joked branch manager Lisa Brooks. Assistant branch manager Cathy Straka captured the moment above, which Maddie’s mom happily shared for publication in Shorelines. •••
