New learning programs praised for flexibility, value
The Training department rolled out two new learning programs in fiscal year 2019: Manager Moments and Aspire. Both programs give managers and employees the opportunity to develop and improve a wide variety of business skills relevant to their roles.
“Anyone can participate and drive their own learning in a self-directed way,” VP and training and development manager Milene Below says of the voluntary programs. “People really seemed to like being able to work through their chosen activities at their own pace. Our first year was a great success. We had 19 total participants between both programs and received some nice feedback from them.” Read more about the programs and what participants had to say!
Tell us what you’re thankful for
The calendar year is drawing to a close, and at the end of the month we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving. Will you share what you’re thankful for from 2019?
It could be a work-related achievement or a joyful moment from your personal life — the door is wide open. But we’d love to hear from you and will run all the answers in a special edition of Shorelines on Wednesday, November 27, right before the big day. Here’s what to do:
- Email shorelines@northshorebank.com with a note about what you’re thankful for from this year. Give us more than a sentence but keep it to about 150 words.
- If you’ve got a photo of whatever it is, attach it to your email or text it to 608-318-3348.
Deadline is 5pm on Monday, November 25. Let’s show our gratitude! Thank you in advance. 🦃 •••
Successful job referrals earn more through January
Do you know someone who’d be a good fit for North Shore Bank? Our incentives for job candidate referrals just got even better!
Now through the end of January 2020, if you refer a job candidate and they take the position, you will receive two $25 gift cards (we normally offer only one) of your choice for Amazon, Home Depot, Kohl’s, or Olive Garden, on top of the normal bonus of $300-$500 — and we are doubling the bonus ($600-$1,000) if your referral is for our Fox Point or Green Bay locations! And don’t forget: You will then also qualify to be entered into one of our quarterly drawings for a bonus of 125,000 Seymour Salutes points — equal to $500. How sweet is that?
Again: We are particularly looking for job candidates available for our Fox Point and Green Bay locations! These referrals will double the incentive you could earn, from now until the end of January 2020.

Business bankers promote services to CPAs
North Shore Bank was a gold sponsor of the 2019 Wisconsin Institute of CPAs Tax Conference on November 7 and 8 at Milwaukee’s Potawatomi Hotel. Commercial Banking and Treasury Management team members staffed a booth promoting our commercial banking services to the certified public accountants in attendance.
“The conference was an excellent opportunity for the Commercial Banking team to meet accountants from Wisconsin businesses and to promote North Shore Bank’s commercial banking services and treasury management products,” VP business banking Mike Cornell said. “Some of us also got to see accountants we already know and reconnect with them.” Mike also gave a two-minute speech promoting North Shore Bank to the entire group of attendees, which was well received.
Employees who helped out at the conference, along with Mike, were VPs business banking Mike Foley and Mike Krause, business relationship manager Karla Lozano, business banking officer Jeff Luczak, business relationship manager Christen Meyer, and VP business banking Phil Ostroski. •••
Pay no purchase fee on gift cards for this year’s holidays
Once again for the holidays, we are waiving the $4.95 purchase fee on all North Shore Bank gift cards purchased through December 31.
Our MasterCard debit gift cards are the perfect gift at the holidays or any other time. The giver chooses how much to give, and the lucky recipient chooses how and where to spend it! Gift cards are an excellent choice for friends or loved ones who might be relocating and need to save space, or for anyone with a wide variety of needs, such as new parents and newlyweds. And of course, they also make great stocking stuffers.
Be sure to let your customers, family, and friends know about this sweet holiday deal — not having to pay a purchase fee saves a lot of cash for anyone buying multiple gift cards. And snatch up a few yourself! You can find more information about this promotion on Ask Seymour and share this link with others who might be interested. •••
Kudos: Zarb and Maurer stay late to help customer
Brookfield Square manager Maria Baumer received this email from a customer grateful for the service provided by two of the branch’s employees:
Hello Maria!
I hope you had a good weekend. I did not receive my new checks last week, so I needed to come in on Saturday to close the account and open a new one.
I unfortunately arrived later than planned, but (assistant branch manager) Mariella Zarb took wonderful care of me, staying late to make sure that everything got taken care of completely. She never appeared rushed and never made me feel like I was inconveniencing her, even though she was staying late on a Saturday! I did thank her a few different times, but I also wanted to share my appreciation with you, so you would know what a wonderful employee she is. Also, I want to share another appreciative shout-out to (teller supervisor) Carmen Maurer for staying late to help Mariella and for telling me that my money was safe. :-)
Thanks to all of you for helping me fix this issue!
Sincerely,
Laura S.
A big thank you to Mariella and Carmen for their top-notch service, and to Maria for highlighting their great work! •••

New Hires for November 14
It’s always exciting to add new members to our team. Here are some of the fresh faces at North Shore Bank.
Brookfield Square teller Erin Hunsberger is from West Allis and previously worked as a key team lead at Dunham’s Sports. She graduated from UW Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in music performance and plays gigs with her viola on the side. “Every other year at Christmastime, my brother, who graduated with the same degree, comes up from Florida to play carols at central Wisconsin’s local grocery store, Trig’s,” Erin says. “Some of the music is from a book, and some we arranged ourselves to make it more fun!” •••
