Mindful Minute: Try these breathing techniques
It’s so simple, and yet there are times we need to remind ourselves to just pause and… take a breath! Practitioners of meditation, yoga, and other holistic traditions have known for thousands of years that befriending your breath keeps your mind and body healthy. Bringing attention to your breathing has a number of measurable benefits, such as stress reduction, lowering your heart rate and blood pressure, and helping to regulate your body’s reaction to stress and fatigue.
There are many breathing techniques you can experiment with, each concentrating on a variety of well-being. Pat Ingelse has a few to get you started — check ’em out!
Germantown counts coins, offers sandwiches, cookies

There’s a lot going on at our new Germantown branch! To help with the nationwide coin shortage, last week area resident Paul rolled in two big buckets of coins, saved up over three years, totaling $1,956.61. He donated $56.61 of that to the Germantown Community Library. All of our branches will offer free coin counting through the end of August, and Germantown will match up to $1,000 in donations to the library.

Last Thursday, as part of the branch’s ongoing grand opening celebration, Germantown also had the Buddha’s BBQ food truck on site to give away free barbecue sandwiches at lunchtime.

And on Tuesday of this week, to mark National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day and as part of our ongoing “Bank on Kindness” initiative, branch manager Erica Hughes performed random acts of kindness by surprising 20 businesses around Germantown and Hubertus with cookies from Truffles bakery. •••

92-year-old customer Bob stopped in at the Union Grove branch and got a photo with personal banker Elise Chase and everybody’s favorite North Shore Bank mascot, Seymour Savings — whose green bandanna doubled as a mask for his bill. “Bob is very spunky and has been loyal to us since 1980!” Elise said. •••
Take control with online appointment scheduling
North Shore Bank’s new online appointment scheduling service allows our customers to set up in-person appointments at our branches.
The service shows you the closest branches to your location and lets you choose whether you are scheduling a personal, business, or mortgage appointment. It then drills down to let you select the specific appointment subject matter — such as checking accounts, savings options, loans, and so forth — and gives you an idea of how long the appointment will take (usually one hour).
The service then presents a selection of available dates and times at the branch you have chosen and asks for your contact information. Both current and prospective customers of North Shore Bank can use the service.

Southwest teller Lorenzo Babbo is from the north side of Chicago and is a student at UW-Milwaukee. He previously worked as a trainer at several Culver’s locations over the last four years. “A current hobby of mine is definitely watching TV shows, now that I have the time,” he says. “One of the shows I’ve gravitated toward lately is The Wire.” •••
