BANK ON KINDNESS

Donations honor American veterans’ contributions

John with one of the CAF planes.

This month, our Bank on Kindness initiative has focused on helping American military veterans. In honor of Veterans Day today, here are three stories of North Shore Bank branches doing just that.

Teller Debbie Hahm, John, and AVP area branch manager Carolyn Lancour.

Southridge customer John is a founding member of the Commemorative Air Force Wisconsin Wing, a nonprofit dedicated to military aviation history and preservation. The group’s pilots fly at memorial services for veterans and accompany honor flights taking veterans to see military memorials in Washington, D.C. The branch invited John to share the story of his involvement with the CAF and tell them about the many planes he’s flown in, including a Boeing B-29 Superfortress. Southridge also donated $100 to the group.

Greendale assistant branch manager Marie Cruz and Kenneth from VFW Post 10519.

Greendale made a donation to VFW Post 10519, which uses the funds it receives to support Milwaukee’s Zablocki VA Medical Center, as well as the Fisher House, which provides temporary housing for the families of veterans receiving care at the VA. The post’s motto is “Veterans helping veterans.” The veterans of Post 10519 are familiar faces at events like the annual Greendale Village Days parade and the village’s Fourth of July parade.

And Germantown donated $200 to the community’s American Legion Post 1, to help the group continue to care for the Germantown Area Veterans Memorial and to add another service member’s name to the granite wall of the memorial.

Many thanks to all of the employees who have helped support our local veterans, and to all of you who have served or who have loved ones who served or are currently serving in the military. As a reminder, through this Sunday, November 14, North Shore Bank is asking the public to donate to these organizations and will match donations up to $2,000 for each of them. Donating is easy — just text “Kindness” to 77948 or visit give.mastercard.com/p/northshorebank. •••

YOUR BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN

Cutie pie greets trick-or-treaters

Wyatt, giving ’em pumpkin to talk about.

“It was his first Halloween, and he greeted trick-or-treaters at our house as a little pumpkin, to match the pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns in our yard,” Northside branch manager Lisa Brooks said of 4-month-old son Wyatt. “Thought he was looking adorable, so I wanted to share.” Orange you glad she did? •••

IN OUR COMMUNITIES

Latino chamber, North Shore Bank win award

SVP commercial banking manager Margaret Capper, chamber executive director Nelson Soler, and representatives from the WEDC and MEDC at the award ceremony.

Last week, the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Southeastern Wisconsin and partners North Shore Bank, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation won the award for Nonprofit Collaboration of the Year in the eighth annual 2021 BizTimes Milwaukee Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The awards recognize top area nonprofit organizations for their work in the community, and private individuals and businesses that support area nonprofits.

The win was for the chamber’s achievement in becoming the first Latino-led Community Development Financial Institution in Wisconsin. As a CDFI, the chamber offers a revolving loan fund that provides financial support and loan access to Latino-owned small businesses in the greater Milwaukee area that may not qualify for commercial loans. Area manager and chamber co-chair Alfredo Martin thanked North Shore Bank for its support in making this achievement possible. •••

“You Can” happy hour generates great conversations

RE/MAX agent James Shiparski, Andy, Ray, Shannon, and Greg speaking to happy-hour attendees.

Our “You Can” happy hour at Birch restaurant in Milwaukee last week gave attendees a chance to hear financial advice while enjoying a craft beer tasting courtesy of 1840 Brewing Company. The event was inspired by North Shore Bank’s “You Can” series of pieces in the Shepherd Express alt-weekly.

“We had a great turnout, but even better, we had great conversations,” said Shorewood branch manager Shannon Weber, who spoke at the event with investment consultant Andy Eichel, North End branch manager Ray Guardiola and mortgage loan officer Greg Kroll. “It was so nice to see people come out and enjoy this time together, but especially to be able to help them with their financial questions.” •••

NORTH SHORE STARS

Luebke wins WMBA award
Senior mortgage lender Steve Luebke was named Best Loan Originator at the Wisconsin Mortgage Bankers Association’s seventh annual Best in Business Awards last week.

“I’m honored and grateful,” said Steve, who was a finalist for the first time this year, and one of five from North Shore Bank. “I would not have been able to accomplish this without the support I receive from our management, processing, underwriting, and loan servicing teams. Their efforts allow me to focus on my goals and provide a great customer experience for our borrowers. My business partners in the Brookfield Square and New Berlin branches, along with commercial banking, have also contributed greatly to my production levels. All of these people are great partners, and I am very thankful for them!” Congratulations, Steve! •••

IT’S THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Brookfield Square, Pewaukee collecting toys
The Brookfield Square and Pewaukee branches are collecting Christmas toys for kids in Waukesha. Through December 8, put new unwrapped toys and other gifts in the big red barrel at the branches, and the Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County will distribute them to children in time for the holidays. Suggested donations include:

  • Mittens and gloves (waterproof is best!) and hats for ages birth to 11
  • Books for ages birth to 11, including Spanish or bilingual books
  • Disney and Star Wars–branded items
  • Infant and toddler toys, especially riding toys for toddlers
  • Sleeping bags and blankets
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) crafts and activities

The council asks that you do not put gift cards in the collection barrels. If you wish to donate a gift card, instructions are here. •••

ONE MINUTE OF MINDFULNESS

It’s natural to want control, but not always possible

Most of us want to know where we’re headed, whether we’re making progress. But sometimes, the universe has other plans. We have to be OK with not knowing, and becoming more flexible and resilient. Sometimes the disappointing but truest message is: Wait and see.

Try this meditation for one minute every day, or longer if you want to:

I ACCEPT what is. I give up control, and give in to something greater, open to a new possibility.

How did this meditation go for you? Share your experience at shorelines@northshorebank.com and you’ll be entered to win a copy of A Mindful Day: 365 Ways to Live Life With Peace, Clarity, and an Open Heart, by David Dillard-Wright.

If you’d like a daily email reminder to practice one minute of mindfulness, email us with the subject “Mindfulness reminder.” Pat Ingelse, AVP and PMP •••
