From Shorewood to Brookfield, our HQ has evolved
Look down! At the bottom center of this aerial photo from before 1981, you can see the historic Dousman-Dunkel-Behling House (with the circular driveway) sitting on the land that would later hold North Shore Bank’s Corporate building.
When the North Shore Building & Loan Association opened 100 years ago, it was in the back room of a hardware store in Shorewood. Since then, the corporate headquarters of what is now North Shore Bank has moved and grown and evolved — and more changes are planned for this year. Check out this look at our history, as well as future plans!
Throwback Thursday: Stein Drugs houses new branch
With the opening of our office in Waukesha’s Stein Drugs in April 1977, North Shore became the first savings and loan in Wisconsin to put a branch inside a retail store.
This full-service location in the drugstore on Main Street in downtown Waukesha was the seventh branch we opened. While neither the branch nor Stein Drugs are there any longer, our eighth — at Capitol Drive and Pilgrim Road in Brookfield — is still going strong. •••
Shepherd Express readers name us Milwaukee’s best
We are thrilled to announce that North Shore Bank was named Best Bank in the Shepherd Express Best of Milwaukee 2022 readers’ choice contest. We beat out fellow finalists Bank Five Nine, BMO Harris Bank, and Chase Bank to take the top honors.

Holiday gift card sales top 2021’s
The results of this year’s holiday gift card campaign are in: We increased sales slightly over last year, for a total $351,639.49 loaded onto 3,874 Mastercard gift cards in November and December. The average amount of each gift card worked out to $90.
“We’ve done this campaign for several years, and gift cards continue to be a popular option for the holidays,” product manager Mary Ott said. “Because the purchase fee is waived, buying gift cards from us is a smarter option than picking them up at a big-box store, where purchase fees can range from $3 to $7.”
Customers and non-customers are remembering that and coming back to us for their holiday gift-giving, she added. •••
Hack is “excellent,” says customer
“Sharon Hack is excellent to work with,” a customer wrote recently, after the Green Bay West area manager helped them out. Another described North Shore Bank staff as “very friendly and helpful.” •••

Collins’s daughter gets married
Husband Jim and Kerri, Katie and new husband Jeremy, and Kerri’s daughters Kelly and Molly.
District manager and VP Kerri Collins’s daughter Katie got married in November at the Ballroom at the Reserve in Neenah. “It was an amazing celebration, and we never stopped dancing!” she says. Congratulations to Katie and her new husband, and you and the rest of the family, Kerri! •••

Part of West Allis Winter Week, Alice in Winter Wonderland takes place next Tuesday, January 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Allis Public Library. This family evening will start with an “unbirthday” storytime, followed by an outdoor glow-stick dance party and “Off With Your Head” trivia for adults. There will be tea, hot cocoa, cookies, chess, and crafts, including North Shore Bank’s area for anyone to decorate their own snowman bookmarks. Guests can also snap a pic with the Queen of Hearts and Alice herself at the Cheshire Grin photo booth. More info here.
The 79th annual Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce Auction and Winter Tasting Tour will be Friday, January 20, at Hawk’s View Golf Club in Lake Geneva.
